Early Beginnings in Dance

Originally from Gwangju, South Korea, J-Hope's passion for dance was evident from a young age. He was part of a street dance crew called "Neuron," where he honed his skills and won various competitions. His dedication to dance led him to audition for JYP Entertainment, one of South Korea's big three music agencies, in 2009. Although he passed the initial rounds, he didn't make the final cut. However, this setback didn't deter him; instead, it fueled his resolve to continue pursuing his dream.

The Big Hit Entertainment Audition

After his experience with JYP, J-Hope decided to audition for Big Hit Entertainment. Big Hit, although smaller than the "Big Three" at the time, was known for its focus on music production and artist development. J-Hope's audition was successful, and he was accepted as a trainee. Notably, he was the first member to sign a contract with Big Hit Entertainment as a full-time trainee, even before moving to Seoul. This happened when he was just 16, demonstrating his early commitment to his music career.

From Trainee to BTS Member

In Big Hit Entertainment, J-Hope trained alongside other future BTS members like RM (Kim Namjoon) and Suga (Min Yoongi). His dance skills were highly valued, and he quickly became known for his choreography and performance abilities. However, his journey wasn't without challenges. There was a moment when J-Hope nearly left the group due to uncertainties and pressures, but it was the emotional plea from the youngest member, Jungkook, and the leadership of RM that convinced him to stay. RM, in particular, played a crucial role by advocating for J-Hope's importance to the group to Big Hit's management, emphasizing that BTS couldn't succeed without him.

Debut with BTS

J-Hope, alongside RM and Suga, formed the rap line of BTS, which debuted on June 13, 2013, with the single album "2 Cool 4 Skool." His role in BTS was not just as a dancer or rapper but also as a producer, contributing to the group's music and choreography. His stage name, J-Hope, was chosen to reflect his desire to be a source of hope and positivity for fans, an ethos he embodies both on and off the stage.

Solo Endeavors and Impact

Beyond BTS, J-Hope has made significant strides as a solo artist. His mixtape "Hope World," released in 2018, and his debut solo album "Jack in the Box" in 2022, showcased his versatility and individual artistry, further cementing his place in the music industry. His solo work has not only been critically acclaimed but has also charted well on global music platforms, proving his influence extends beyond BTS.

Conclusion - J-Hope Joined BTS

J-Hope's path to joining BTS was marked by determination, talent, and a few pivotal moments of support from his future bandmates. From his early days as a dancer in Gwangju to becoming a global icon, J-Hope's journey underscores the power of perseverance, passion, and the impact of a supportive team. His story is not just about how he joined BTS but also about how he has shaped the group's identity and continues to inspire fans and aspiring artists around the world.
